Cambodia has a land area of 181,035 square kilometers in the southwestern part of the Indochina peninsula, about 20 percent of which is used for agriculture. It lies completely within the tropics with its southern most points slightly more than 10° above the Equator.
Today Cambodia is symbolised by awesome Angkor Wat, the largest manmade religious structure in the world. And Angkor represents the mighty Khmer Empire, which ruled most all of what we know today as Southeast Asia a thousand years ago. But Cambodia is so much more than just one temple. Her riverside capital, which still retains its French-colonial ambience, is home to reminders of the country’s brutal recent history, but is firmly focused on the future.
